NDNU Names New Director of Soccer

Lance Thompson hired to lead the

men’s and women’s soccer programs

February 12 – The Notre Dame de Namur University athletic department has announced the hiring of Lance Thompson as the Director of Soccer.

Thompson is currently an assistant coach at the Midwestern State and comes to NDNU with over eight years of college coaching experience.  Before spending a year as an assistant at Midwestern, Thompson was the men’s head soccer coach and Athletic Director at Holy Names University for two seasons.  Prior to that, Thompson led the Alliant International men’s soccer program for five seasons and the women’s for two.

Thompson has enjoyed success in all of his previous coaching positions, compiling an overall record of 112-58-15.  This past year at Midwestern State he helped lead the Mustangs to a #11 national ranking and an appearance in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.  At Holy Names, he led the team to a California Pacific Conference Championship and NAIA Region II Championship in 2004.  During his tenure at Alliant International, the men’s team won the NAIA Region II Championship in 2001 and was runner up in 2003.

Thompson becomes only the fourth men’s head coach in the 19 year history of the program and the third women’s coach since the program started in 2000.

The NDNU men’s and women’s soccer programs are both coming off of Pacific West Conference Championships and will open the 2007 season at the end of August.
