NDNU to Split with BYU Hawaii

March 26 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball picked up a split with BYU Hawaii thanks to Bria De Lorenzo’s four homeruns in Monday’s doubleheader.  De Lorenzo belted her first homerun of the day in the sixth inning of the first game, before setting a school record with three homeruns and seven RBIs in the second game.  Her final homerun, a grand slam in the sixth inning of game two busted the game wide open.

The Argos struggled to find their bats early in the first game, falling behind 7-0.  BYU Hawaii used homeruns in Jana Dewey and Holly Bjork in the third to build their lead while pitcher Crystal De La Cruz held the Argos scoreless through five innings.  NDNU closed the gap in the sixth with De Lorenzo’s first homeruns of the day but could not get any closer, falling 8-3. 

The second game started out the same with the Seasiders scoring five unanswered runs in the first three innings.  However, the Argos responded, scoring the games final 13 runs including nine in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.  Trailing 5-1 in the fifth, Amy Paulson drove in a run with a triple before being brought home by De Lorenzo’s second homer of the game.  In the sixth, the Argos tied the game with a bases loaded walk to Huson, and took the lead with a two-run single by Paulson.  After Tara Van Meter walked to reload the bases, De Lorenzo blasted a grand slam over the left field fence to give NDNU a 11-5 lead.  Anna Garza capped of the inning with a two-run homerun to give the Argos a 13-5 victory.  Danielle Holt picked up her fifth win of the season, surrendering only two earned runs in six innings of work.  The Argos and Seasiders square off again tomorrow morning at 10:00 am for another doubleheader.  GAME 1 BOX SCORE   GAME 2 BOX SCORE

 

Sonoma Sweeps Past Argos

March 14 - The Notre Dame de Namur softball team fell twice at the hands of Sonoma State in Monday's non-conference doubleheader.  The Argos could not get the bats going, managing just four hits in the two games.  Sonoma State took the first game 7-0 on a combined two hit shutout by Lindsay Emmel and Brittany Williams.  The second game was much of the same as Simone Brandalise and Williams hurled another shutout on the way to a 5-0 victory.  Lindsay Crist picked up two hits on the day for the Argos while Tara Van Meter and Milana Jordan delivered one each.  The Argos are away again on Saturday when they face CSU East Bay for a pair of games starting at noon.  GAME 1 BOX SCORE   GAME 2 BOX SCORE

Argos Struggle on Hawaii Trip

March 10 - The NDNU softball team struggled on their ten game Hawaii road trip over the past week, going 2-10.  The Argos played four game apiece against Pac West foes Chaminade, Hawaii Pacific and Hawaii-Hilo.  The trip got off to a good start as NDNU took two of the first three against Chaminade, including a 6-1 victory in  the first game.  However, NDNU dropped their final game against the Swords and four each to HPU and Hawaii-Hilo.

Amy Paulson and Tara Van Meter led the Argos offense, combining for 21 hits, four homeruns and 12 RBIs.  Paulson had two homeruns, seven hits and six RBIs in the first four games of the trip while Van Meter hit .484 with two homers and four RBIs over the final eight.
