Argos Need Five to Knock Off Holy Names
October 12- NDNU needed
a fifth game tonight in Belmont to knock off visiting Holy Names University
(24-30, 30-27, 30-25, 19-30, 15-11). Holy Names came out swinging in the first
game and got out to an early lead. The Hawks were able to hang on even after
a late NDNU push, behind 14 kills on only 4 errors. NDNU had 12 kills and added
9 errors as they dropped the first game 24-30. The momentum shifted in the Argos
favor in the second as they controlled the entire game and they too withstood
a late run to hang on 30-27. NDNU cut down on their errors as they only had
3 and added 13 kills. The Hawks had 9 costly errors. NDNU also controlled the
third game as they again only committed 3 errors and had 16 kills and won 30-25.
Holy Names again came out swinging in the fourth game as they knocked 19 winners
down and only committed 3 errors. Meanwhile NDNU only had 3 errors but had 8
kills. The fifth game played out as the match did with a lot of intensity shifting
between both teams but the Argos had just enough left to finish off the Hawks.
NDNU finished with 11 kills and only 1 error in the deciding fifth game. The
Hawks’, Therese Slade led all players with 19 kills. Laura Trudelle and
Val Adams led NDNU with 14 kills apiece. The Argos’ Jen McMurtry led all
players with 46 assists and 7 serve aces. The Argos improve to 5-18 on the season
and will travel to Dominican on Saturday night at 7pm.
