Argos Fall to Grand
Canyon in Final Game
March 3 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team could not hold off Grand Canyon, dropping the final game of the season 84-65. The Argos started off strong, shooting 52% in the first half and leading the conference champions six at the break. The ‘Lopes led by as many as nine early on, but a 19-2 run, including 14 straight points by the Argos gave NDNU a 12 point lead. The second proved to be a much different half as Grand Canyon took over. With the game tied at 51-51 with 11:16 left, the ‘Lopes put together two separate 10-0 runs to put the game out of reach. The Argos shot 50% in half, but they could not overcome 19 second half turnovers. Grand Canyon shot just 43% for the game but out scored NDNU at the free throw line 23-8.
Grace Hartman led four Argos in double figures, recording her third double-double of the season with 13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Jennifer Dreessen added 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench while Kelsey MacKenzie and Darice Murray tacked on 10 points apiece. Rosalyn Nelson led all players with 24 points, four assists and four steals while added 22 points on 4-5 shooting from behind the arc. The Argos finished the season with a 9-19 record, but finished third in conference play with an 8-7 record. BOX SCORE

Grand Canyon Drops
Argos in Pac West Finale
March 2 – The NDNU women’s basketball team finished up their 2006-2007 conference schedule with a defeat at the hands of Grand Canyon, 93-64. The Argos finished Pacific West play with an 8-7 record, good enough for third in the conference. Grand Canyon used runs of 9-0 and 17-3 in the first half to take a 22 point lead into the break. The Lady Lopes started the second with ten straight points and never looked back, shooting 57% in the half. Grand Canyon, who improved to 15-0 in conference play shot 51% for the game and forced 21 turnovers. NDNU connected on ten 3-pointers in the contest, but shot just 40% from the field.
Grace Hartman scored a game high 20 points and added eight rebounds, four assists and a career high six 3-pointers. Ramona Vae was the other Argo in double figures with 10 points and six rebounds. Grand Canyon had four players in double figures, led by Jennifer Cobb’s 16 points. Jill Mahoney and Brandi Steinke added 13 points each while Joey White tacked on 10. Rosalyn Nelson scored nine points while adding nine assists and six steals. The Argos finish up their season tomorrow night with a non-conference match up with Grand Canyon. BOX SCORE

Second Half Comeback
Pushes Hawaii-Hilo over NDNU
February 15 – The NDNU women’s basketball team could not hold onto their first half lead, dropping a Pac West game to Hawaii-Hilo 68-62. The Argos led throughout the first half and for most of the second before a late Hilo rally pushed the Vulcans ahead. Ashley Wilson and Grace Hartman each hit a 3-pointer in the opening minutes as the Argos scored the games first nine points. The Vulcans would claw their way back to three, but NDNU was able to take a six point lead into the break. The Argos continued to lead until the ten minute mark when Hilo tied the game for the first time. With the score tied at 50-50 and 7:30 left, Amy Kaaiakamanu’s three sparked a 7-0 run. NDNU would never lead again as Hilo hit clutch shots down the stretch.
Grace Hartman scored a career high 24 points and recorded her first double-double by adding 11 rebounds. Ashley Wilson and Ramona Vae tacked on 13 and 10 respectively for the Argos. Sheila Azevedo picked up a double-double for the Vulcans with 22 points and 10 rebounds while Ashley Kualii added 19 points. The Argos will take on Chaminade in their final game of the Hawaii trip on Saturday afternoon. BOX SCORE
