Chang Leads Argos Past Dixie State on Senior Day

February 23 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball ended their 2006-2007 home schedule strong with a 65-51 victory over Dixie State on Senior Day.  Stephen Chang, the teams only senior led the way with a season high 21 points and knocked down five 3-pointers.  Chang, making only his second start was just one point off his career high, hitting 7-10 from the field and grabbing six rebounds.  The Argos started off slow, trailing by six halfway through the first before a late run gave them a four point lead at the break.  The second half was a different story as NDNU quickly jumped out to a 16 point lead after a 10-0 run.  The Rebels battled back within eight, but Chris Clock’s three with 8:46 left gave the Argos an 11 point lead.  Dixie State would not get the margin into single digits for the rest of the game.  NDNU shot 45% for the game, including 54% in the second and committed only eight turnovers.  The Rebels turned the ball over 16 times and shot just 38% from the field.

Chang scored 11 of his 21 in the second and connected on all three of his 3-pointers in the half.  Chris Clock added 11 points, 4 rebounds and four assists while Ryan Cooper tacked on nine points and four assists.  Dan Bergeron netted eight points, eight boards and a pair of steals.  Ben Hartman led Dixie with 14 points while Troy Randall added 12 points and seven boards.  The Argos are off to Phoenix next weekend as the close out the season with a pair of games against Grand Canyon.  BOX SCORE

 

Chaminade Downs NDNU

February 18 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team could not hold off Chaminade, falling to the Swords 78-48.  The Argos could not get their offense going all game long, hitting just 33% from the field and 0-11 from three.  The Swords meanwhile shot 48% including 52% in the second half.  Chaminade jumped out big early on, taking a 13 point lead into the break with NDNU shooting just 29%.  The second half was much of the same as the Silver outscored the Argos 42-25.

 

Eric Bossom led the Argos with 12 points and five rebounds while Deon Sharps added eight off the bench.  Zach Whiting recorded a triple-double for Chaminade, finishing with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.  Marko Kolaric tacked on 11 points and 15 rebounds.  The Argos return home to face future Pac West Conference member Dixie State on Friday night at Walter Gleason Gym.  BOX SCORE

Argos Fall to Hawaii-Hilo

February 15 – The NDNU men’s basketball could not hold off Hawaii-Hilo, falling on the road 71-60.  The Argos started off strong, leading early in the game before the Vulcans made a run.  With Hilo leading 21-18 with just under five to play, the Vulcans scored 11 unanswered points to stretch the margin to 14.  NDNU fought back to get the lead into single digits in the beginning on the second half.  However, Hilo would not let it get any closer pushing the lead up to 19 points.  The Vulcans knocked down 48% of their shots for the game including ten from behind the arc.  NDNU connected on eight threes of their own while shooting 47%, but were outscored at the free throw line 13-4. 

 

Dan Bergeron and Stephen Chang led the Argos with 11 points each while Chris Clock and Ryan Cooper added nine apiece.  Clock knocked down three 3-pointers and Copper tacked on four assists.  Vince Alvarado poured in a game high 24 points on 8-11 shooting while Travis Sobers hit five threes on his way to 17 points off the bench.  Samuel Wilhoite tacked on six points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four blocks.  The Argos will take on Chaminade in their final game of the Hawaii trip on Saturday afternoon. Argos Prevail on the Road Over Hawaii-Hilo

February 14 - The NDNU men's basketball picked up their second conference win of the season with a 73-69 victory over Hawaii-Hilo.  The Argos shot 52% for the game and turned the ball over only six times on the way to their first Pac West road win.  The Vulcans came out hot, hitting eight of their first ten shots and taking an early six point lead.  However, NDNU would not go away, using a Ryan Cooper three to spark a 10-0 run.  With the Argos up by nine Hilo scored the next seven to cut the deficit to two and would take the lead at the break on a Darryl Harris jumper with three seconds left.  The second half was a see-saw battle, with the Vulcans quickly going up by five.  The Argos then made a run of their own to go up six before Hilo answered back and took another five point lead.  Eric Bossom's jumper at the 3:59 mark gave the Argos the lead for good and six free throws in the final minute sealed the victory.  The Vulcans shot a blistering 62% for the game, but turned the ball over 16 times.

Ryan Cooper led the Argos with 23 points on 8-13 shooting and hit three 3-pointers.  Eric Bossom scored 16 while Dan Bergeron tacked on 11 of his own.  Samuel Wilhoite poured in a game high 25 points for the Vulcans and added nine rebounds.  Justin Dobson connected on three shots from behind the arc on his way to 18 while Vince Alvarado hit all five of his shots for 11 points.  These two teams will square off again Thursday night for their third and final meeting of the season.  BOX SCORE

Big First Half Helps BYU Hawaii Down Argos

February 10 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team could not overcome a big first half lead, losing to BYU Hawaii 81-62.  The Argos started off strong, taking a 13-12 lead eight minutes into the game.  However, the Seasiders would then go on a 28-13 run to go up by 14 points.  NDNU battled back, cutting the deficit to eight at the break.  In the second, the Argos got within six but a quick seven point streak by BYU Hawaii broke the game wide open.  The Seasiders shot 49% for the game, including 53% in the first half.  The Argos struggled from the field in the second, connecting on just 32% of their shots.

Chris Clock led the Argos with 19 points on 8-14 shooting.  The teams leading scorer, Ryan Cooper finished with just six points but added seven assists.  BYU Hawaii was paced by Wu Tai-Hao's 18 points, all of which came in the first half.  Eric Boyce and Jermaine Odjegba tacked on 12 points each while Lucas Alves added 10.  The Argos are off to Hawaii for a three game road trip that will see them face Chaminade once and Hawaii-Hilo twice.  BOX SCORE

 

NDNU Falls Short to Hawaii Pacific

February 8 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team could not make it two Pac West wins in a row, falling to Hawaii Pacific 59-55.  The Argos jumped out early, making their first four shots, all threes to take a 12-2 lead in the opening minutes.  HPU would then score the next six points and stay close for the rest of the first half.  The Argos connected on just 44% of their shots in the first half, but hit 50% from behind the arc to take a 26-22 lead into the break.  The second half was a different story as the Sea Warriors quickly erased the deficit and took a four point lead with 15 minutes left.  HPU would build the lead up to ten before a pair of Stephen Chang free throws made it a two point game with 55 second remaining.  Rishi Kakad came up big in the final minute, hitting all four of his free throws to ice the game for the Sea Warriors.  HPU shot 50% in the second half while the Argos made just 33% of their shots.

 

Chris Clock led all players with 19 points and hit five 3-pointers on the night.  Ryan Cooper added nine points and five assists while Chris Edwards had four blocks.  Brandon Lee paced HPU with a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Rishi Kakad tacked on 12 points with Adam Reinking adding 11 points and five steals.  The Argos are back in action Saturday afternoon when they take on first place BYU Hawaii at 2:30 pm.  BOX SCORE

 

Argos Capture First Pacific West Victory

February 7 – The Notre Dame de Namur men's basketball team picked up their first ever Pacific West Conference victory with a 71-55 win over Hawaii Pacific.  The two teams battled closely for much of the first half with Dan Bergeron's jumper at the buzzer giving the Argos a two point halftime lead.  NDNU came out strong in the second, scoring the first eight points and taking a ten point lead.  The Sea Warriors cut the deficit to two with eight minutes remaining, but two straight Stephen Chang threes gave NDNU some breathing room.  The Argos scored eight straight in the final two minutes to push the margin to as many as 18.  NDNU shot 44% for the game including 54% in the second half.  The Argos also committed only eight turnovers while forcing HPU into 16.

Ryan Cooper led four Argos in double figures with 14 and added four assists.  Aaron Parker and Stephen Chang tacked on 12 apiece with all 12 of Chang;s points comming in the second half.  Chris Clock added 10 while Dan Bergeron grabbed a career high 15 rebounds.  Adam Reinking and Rishi Kakad led HPU with 12 points each.  These two teams will square off again tomorrow night for their final matchup of the season. BOX SCORE

 

NDNU Topples Dixie State

February 3 – The Notre Dame de Namur men's basketball team took a break from conference play to take on future Pac West member Dixie State in St. George, Utah.  The Argos came out on top, downing the Rebels 64-63 in a back and forth contest.  The two teams started out trading buckets but with Dixie State up 10-9, the Argos rattled off 13 straight points to take a double digit lead.  The Rebels battled back, cutting the lead to five with three minutes left in the half,.  However, NDNU closed strong and went into the break with a ten point margin.  The second half was a different story, as DSC would reclaim the lead.  After a Stephen Chang 3-pointer gave the Argos a 12 point advantage, the Rebels responded with a 16-0 run to go up by four points.  The final ten minutes saw both teams cling to small leads, until the Argos pull ahead in the final minutes.  Eric Bossom scored NDNU's final eight points and a missed three at the buzzer by Dixie State preserved the win.  The Argos shot 45% for the game, including 57% in the first half.  They also forced 14 turnovers for the while only committing seven of their own.

Eric Bossom led three Argos in double figured with 15 points, 13 of which came in the second half.  Stephen Chang and Chris Clock knocked down three shots each from behind the arc on their way to 13 and 11 points respectively.  Troy Randall poured in a game high 28 points for the Rebels while Ryan Sanchez tacked onn 11 points and 14 rebounds.  The Argos (6-12) return to Pacific West play on Wednesday against Hawaii-Pacific at Walter Gleason Gym.  BOX SCORE

 

Argos Fall to Grand Canyon in Defensive Battle

January 27– The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball fell in another nail biter to conference rival Grand Canyon 51-49.  The two teams battled back and forth for most of the contest without either squad being able to pull away.  The game featured 13 lead changes and was tied nine times, most of which came in the second half.  A night after both teams shot over 50% from the field, neither one could get it going in the first half.  Grand Canyon shot just 37% from the field, but was able to take a three point lead into break by holding the Argos to just 31%.  Ryan Cooper hit a three to open the second half, tying the game at 28-28.  The ‘Lopes then pushed ahead by five points, but another Cooper three knotted the game again.  After a Dan Bergeron lay-up gave the Argos a four point margin with 3:07 left, Grand Canyon scored two quick buckets to even the game.  With the game tied at 49-49 with just over one minute left, Antelope center Bryan Lee hit a shot in the lane to give GCU a two point lead.  The Argos could not answer back, missing a couple of shots in the closing seconds.  The Argos shot just 32% from the field for the game but did out rebound the ‘Lopes 31-21.

 

Ryan Cooper scored a game high 20 points on 6-14 shooting.  All six of his baskets came from behind the arc, four in the second half.  Dan Bergeron added nine points and eight rebounds while Aaron Parker picked up a career high eight assists.  Bryan Lee led the way for the Antelopes, scoring 14 second half points on his way to 19 for the game.  Lee also added five rebounds, four steals and three blocks.  Richard Davis hit four 3-pointers on his way to 18 points and four assists.  The Argos fell to 0-8 in conference play and are off to face future Pac West rival Dixie State in St. George, Utah next Saturday. BOX SCORE

 

Long Ball Helps Grand Canyon Over NDNU

January 26 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball suffered another tough conference loss, dropping their first of three meeting with Grand Canyon 83-77.  Grand Canyon was on fire all night from long range, hitting 13-19 from the 3-point line.  The two teams battled back and forth for much of the first half before a few late points gave GCU a three point lead at halftime.  The Antelopes and Argos both shot over 50% for the half with each team hitting six shots from behind the arc.  The second half started out just like the first with the Argos taking a quick lead before Grand Canyon went back ahead.  With the ‘Lopes leading 50-49 halfway through the second a run of three straight 3-pointers pushed their margin up to ten.  The Argos fought back getting the deficit down to four in the final minute, but GCU hit their final ten free throws to ice the game.  NDNU shot 63% in the second half and hit 10-19 from behind the arc, but the Antelopes answered with 13 threes of their own and outscored the Argos 18-5 from the charity stripe.

 

Chris Clock hit five of the Argos ten 3-pointers on his way to a team high 17 points.  Dan Bergeron shot 7-8 from the field on his way to 15 points, while Stephen Chang and Aaron Parker reached double figures with 11 and 10 respectively.  Point guard Ryan Cooper recorded a season high nine assists and tacked on seven points.  Devon Greene poured in a game high 27 points off the bench on 5-8 shooting from downtown.  Rudy Bogan added 24 while Jason Stromvall hit all three of his threes for 10 points.  These two teams will be back in action tomorrow night at 7:30 in Walter Gleason Gymnasium.  BOX SCORE

 

Hawaii-Hilo Topples Argos

January 20 – The NDNU men’s basketball continued their recent struggles, falling to Hawaii-Hilo 78-70.  The two teams battled back and forth for much of the first half, but a late surge by the Vulcans put the visitors up 10 with 1:35 left.  The Argos closed out the half strong with three straight baskets, including a Chris Edwards lay-up at the buzzer to close the gap to four.  Hawaii-Hilo came running out of the gates in the second, using a 13-4 to push their margin to eleven.  The Argos continued to battle, cutting the deficit to six late in the game but UHH hit their free throws to preserve the win.  The Vulcans took 33 free throws to only six by the Argos and out scored them at the line 23-2.  Hilo shot 51% from the field and hit nine three-pointers while the Argos shot 45% from the field.

 

Chris Clock led five Argonauts in double figures with 16, including four three-pointers.  Chris Edwards added 13 and eight off the bench while Stephen Chang and Aaron Parker tacked on 12 each.  All five Hawaii-Hilo starters scored in double figures, led by Darryl Harris’s 19 points.  Samuel Wilhoite added 17 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks while Vince Alvarado finished with 16 points and six assists.  The Argos are back home next weekend for a pair of games against conference rival Grand Canyon on Friday and Saturday night.  BOX SCORE

 

Argos Fall to Chaminade for Second Straight Night

January 18 – The NDNU men’s basketball team once again fell short at the hands of Chaminade University, dropping their second game in as many days.  A night after falling by two in overtime, the Argos lost 75-70 despite a frantic rally late in the contest.  NDNU trailed for almost the whole game, leading just once by the score 4-2.  The Swords jumped out early, using nine first half three pointers to take a 14 point lead into the break.  The second half started out the same with the lead swelling to 16 before the Argos cut it to six with a jumper by Adam Bleem.  Chaminade would push the difference back up to 17 after Stewart Kussler’s three with six minutes remaining, but the Argos once again fought back scoring nine straight.  NDNU would ultimately cut the margin to five, but Chaminade hit 6-7 free throws in the final minute to ice the game.

Eric Bossom led the way for the Argos, scoring 19 points, 13 of which came after the break.  Stephen Chang added 13, all in the first, and connected on 3-4 from behind the arc.  Chris Clock was the third Argo in double figures, finishing with 11 while Dan Bergeron picked up five steals.  Zach Whiting poured in a game high 23 points and added 12 assists and five boards.  Darrell Birton tacked on 12 points with Marko Kolaric grabbing 12 rebounds.  The Argos are back in action Saturday afternoon for a 2:30 game with conference rival Hawaii-Hilo. NDNU Drops Overtime Thriller to Chaminade

January 17 – NDNU and Chaminade needed an additional five minutes to decide Wednesday’s Pacific West game.  The two teams battled back and forth all game long, sending the game into overtime before Chaminade prevailed 64-62.  The Argos started off the game quickly, jumping out an early four point lead.  The Silver Swords battled back and built their margin to six with eight minutes left.  NDNU was able to knot the score at 22 going into the break with a jumper by Ryan Cooper in the closing seconds. 

 

The second half started out differently as the Silver Swords scored the first nine to take the lead.  After the lead peaked at 12, NDNU rallied back to tie the score with just under eight minutes left.  The Argos would go ahead by four in the final minutes but could not hold off Chaminade.  The Silver Swords tied the game at 56-56 on Zach Whiting’s jumper with 48 seconds left, sending the game to overtime.  In overtime, the lead continued to seesaw back and forth with four lead changes.  Chris Clock gave the Argos a 62-61 lead with 1:22 left on a jumper, but the Argos fouled Whiting on the next possession.  Whiting hit both free throws to give the Swords the lead back.  After another free throw by Chaminade the Argos had one last chance, but Eric Bossom’s jumper fell short and ended the game.

 

Ryan Cooper poured in a game high 24 points on 9-17 shooting and added three steals.  Dan Bergeron tacked on nine points and eight rebounds while Eric Bossom grabbed a season high 13 rebounds.  Zach Whiting led the way for the Swords, scoring 19 points, eight rebounds and eight assists while playing all 45 minutes.  Stewart Kussler and Marko Kolaric also reached double figures for Chaminade, tallying 15 and 12 points respectively.  The Argos fell to 5-8 on the season while Chaminade improved to 11-6.  These two teams will meet again tomorrow night for the second of the three meeting this season.  The game will start at 7:30 pm at Walter Gleason Gym. Argos Fall to Hawaii-Pacific

January 6 - The Notre Dame de Namur men's basketball team will have to wait to come home to win their first Pacific West game.  The Argos dropped their third straight conference match up with a 71-60 loss to Hawaii Pacific.  The Sea Warriors were tough defensively, holding the Argos to just nine points over the first 15 minutes of the game.  Trailing by 12 with under five to play, Chris Clock and Stephen Chang hit back-to-back threes to cut the HPU lead in half.  The Argos cut the lead to one before a last second 3-pointer put the Sea Warriors up by four at halftime.  The second half started well for the Argos when Clock knocked down another three to tie the game at 29-29.  HPU responded with a pair of threes to give them a six point lead and would never look back.  A late 8-0 run by the Sea Warriors would stretch the difference to 17 points before the Argos cut it down to eleven at the buzzer.  NDNU shot just 39% from the field while HPU hit 46% from the field, including 58% in the second half.  Both teams were hot from behind the arc with the Argos connecting on nine threes and the Sea Warriors burying eight.

Chris Clock scored a game high 23 points, 18 of which came in the second half.  Clock knocked down six threes in the second on his was to a career high seven 3-pointers for the game.  Stephen Chang tacked on 13 points off the bench while Dan Bergeron added seven points, eight boards and a pair of blocks.  HPU was led by 21 points and seven rebounds from Brandon Lee and a double-double from Adam Reinking who finished with 13 and 11.  The Argos return home to take on Chaminade in their Pac West home opener on Wednesday, January 17 at 7:30 pm.  BOX SCORE

 

Slow Start for Argos Leads to Second Straight Conference Loss

January 4 - The NDNU men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start, dropping their second straight conference game to BYU Hawaii, 85-65.  The Argos hit just one of their first eleven shots and found themselves down 17-2 with just under 12 minutes to play in the first.  NDNU got their touch back, hitting five of their next ten shots, before a 9-0 Seasider run pushed the difference to 22 points.  The half ended with BYU leading by 17 points, out shooting the Argos 53% to 29%.  The Argos came out firing in the second, connecting on 61% of their field goals and whittling the Seasider lead to 11.  BYU quickly built their margin back up to 21 points and ended the game with a 20 point victory.  The Seasiders' shot 56% for the game and hit ten 3-pointers.

Ryan Cooper poured in a team season high 25 points and added five assists.  Cooper made 8-13 shots from the field including two from behind the arc.  Chris Clock tacked on 12 points while Chris Edwards finished with nine points and six boards off the bench.  BYU Hawaii was led by four players in double figures, including 12 from Paul Peterson.  Trenson Akana made all three of his 3-point attempts on his was to an 11 point performance.  The Argos are off to Hawaii-Pacific for the final game of their first Hawaii trip of the season. BOX SCORE

 

NDNU Drops Conference Opener in Hawaii

January 3 - The NDNU men's basketball team could not hold off BYU Hawaii in the Pacific West Conference opener, falling 71-62.  The Argos started a little sluggish trailing 14-4 early in the contest, but quick 8-2 run over a three minute stretch cut the Seasiders' lead to four.  BYU rebounded quickly, watching their lead swell to as many as twelve before NDNU rattled off six straight points.  Eric Boyce and Chris Clock matched threes in the final minute and a free throw by the Seasiders pushed the margin to seven at the break.  The Argos out rebounded BYU Hawaii by three in the half, but shot just 34% from the field.  After the teams traded buckets to start the second, NDNU scored seven straight to cut the deficit back down to two.  That would be as close as the Argos would get as BYU Hawaii kept their lead throughout the game to take the nine point victory.  NDNU shot 46% in the second and committed only five turnovers, but were outscored 17-7 from the free throw line.

Chris Clock poured in a game high 18 points and hit four 3-pointers while Eric Bossom scored 11 of his 12 points in the second half.  Ryan Cooper added seven points and a season high seven assists from the point guard position.  Dan Bergeron once again put together a solid all-around game, finishing with six points, six boards, four assists, three steals and two blocks.  The Seasiders were led by Lucas Alves's 14 points and six rebounds and Eric Boyce's 12 points.  The two teams will square off again tomorrow night in Laie, Hawaii.  BOX SCORE

 

Menlo Takes Nail Biter Over Argos

December 30 - The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team could not hold off a late second half charge from Menlo College who prevailed 67-65 in tonight’s non-conference tilt.  The Argos found themselves down early, trailing the Oaks 14-13 with 11 minutes remaining in the first half.  They would finish the half strong, scoring the final six points and taking an eight point lead into the break.  NDNU shot 43% from the field in the first half and knocked down three triples but where out rebounded 15-11 by Menlo.  The Oaks whittled the lead down to two in the second before an 18-8 Argos run pushed the margin up to 12 with just over eight minutes to play.  Four straight baskets by Menlo, including a three from Israel Torres sparked a 9-0 run and cut the NDNU lead to three.  The Argos would respond and push their lead back up to seven before back-to-back Menlo threes made it a one point game with less than two minutes to play.  With the Argos still clinging to a one point lead in the final seconds, Menlo guard Brandon Rogers drove right and knocked in the go-ahead lay-up with just 20 seconds left in the contest.  NDNU got one final look at the basket with five seconds remaining but could not connect on the jumper.  Menlo improved to 4-5 on the season, while the Argos dropped their third straight game to move to 5-4.

 

Eric Bossom led the Argos attack, pouring in a season high 18 points and adding six boards and four assists.  Ryan Cooper knocked down four 3-pointers on his way to 14 points while Dan Bergeron tacked on 10 points and five assists.  NDNU hit 8-18 from behind the arc, including 5-9 in the second half.  The Oaks got a game high 26 points from Aaron Gentry who connected on 11 of 16 shot and grabbed seven rebounds.  Bryon Wesley added 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists in 36 minutes.  Menlo shot a blistering 59% from the field in the second half, including 6-10 from 3-point range.  The Argos will start Pac West play next week as they travel to Hawaii for a pair of games against BYU Hawaii and one against Hawaii Pacific.  BOX SCORE  

 

Argos Fall to Western Oregon in Consolation Game

December 16 – The NDNU men's basketball team dropped their second straight game at the Lawrence R. DeBani, Sr. Memorial Classic with a 80-71 defeat to Western Oregon.  The Wolves led by as many as nine points in the first half, and went into the locker room with a 37-32 lead.  However, the beginning of the second half was a different story as the Argos went on a 21-3 run in the first five minutes.  NDNU scored the first 12 points of the half, with Eric Bossom picking up six during that stretch.  The Argos would increase their lead to 16 points with 12:31 to go after a jumper by Dan Bergeron.  Western Oregon would not go away as they would then go on a run of their own, reeling off 13 consecutive points to pull within three.  WOU used three treys during the run, including two by Ryan Schmidt.  The Argos still maintained their lead until two free throws tied the game at 66-66 with 2:53 left.  The Wolves would go ahead for good with just over a minute left and end the game on a 14-5 run. 

The Argos had a season high five players in double figures, with Dan Bergeron turning in 16 points, eight rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocks.  Stephen Chang added 13 points of the bench, while Ryan Cooper, Chris Clock and Eric Bossom also scored at least ten points.  The Wolves were led by Ryan Schmidt's 24 points and eight rebounds and 17 points from Dominique DeWeese.  Schmidt hit four of Western Oregon's 10 threes on the night.  The Wolves also outscored the Argos 20-4 from the charity stripe.  NDNU is off until December 30th when they return home to face Menlo College at 7:00 pm.  BOX SCORE

 

NDNU Drops Tournament Opener to Humboldt State

December 15 – The Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts could not hold off Humboldt State in the first game of the Lawrence R. DeBeni, Sr. Memorial Classic in Arcata, CA.  The Lumberjacks got off to a fast start and never looked back, winning the contest 76-62.  The Argos found themselves down 10 at halftime after shooting only 43% in the half and committing 15 turnovers.  NDNU rebounded in the second half, hitting 15 of 25 shots including four 3-pointers, but could not close the gap.  Humboldt led by as many as 21 points in the second half before a late run by the Argos.

Chris Clock led three Argos in double figures with 20 points and hit a season high four 3-pointers.  Ryan Cooper added 11 points and Eric Bossom tacked on 10 and four rebounds.  The Lumberjacks used a balanced attack with four starters scoring at least 12 points.  Kevin Johnson recorded a double-double, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds.  Devin Love contributed 15 of his own, while Jeremiah Love added 12 points and five steals.  NDNU is back in action tomorrow night against Western Oregon for the consolation game at 5:00 pm. Argos Outlast Sunbirds, Win Fourth Straight

December 9 – The NDNU men’s basketball picked up their fourth consecutive victory with a 63-58 win over Fresno Pacific.  The Argos used a big first half run to regain the lead and would never trail again.  The Sunbirds led the contest 18-12 halfway through the first half before a 15-0 run put NDNU ahead.  The Argos finished the first on a 20-3 run and took an 11 point lead into the half.  FPU rebounded quickly in the second, cutting the lead to one with just under 12 minutes to play.  NDNU would then rattle off eight straight points to push the margin back up to nine and close out the game.  The Argos shot 56% from the field for the game and held the Sunbirds to just 41% shooting.

Ryan Cooper knocked down a pair of threes on his way to a season high 22 points to lead the NDNU attack.  Dan Bergeron chipped in 10 points and six rebounds while Chris Clocked added eight points of his own.  Adrian Sanchez led FPU with 20 points and connected on four 3-pointers.  Jordan Farley came off the bench to record a double-double, picking up 15 points and 12 rebounds.  The Argos improved to 5-1 on the season and are back in action December 15-16 for the Humboldt State Tournament in Arcata, CA. BOX SCORE

 

NDNU Makes It Three in A Row With Win Over Saint Martin's

December 5 - Despite having yet to play a home game this season, the NDNU men's basketball team improved to 4-1 with 62-56 victory over Saint Martin's.  The win was the Argos third straight overall and improved their road record to 3-0.  The game was tight throughout, with ten ties and several lead changes.  The Argos took a two point lead into halftime thanks to last second jumper by Stephen Chang.  In the second, NDNU scored four straight to push the lead to six before the Saints rallied back and tied the game.  Saint Martin's would continue to hang close, knotting the game four times in the second but failing to take the lead.  With the score tied at 56-56 with 43 seconds left, the Argos closed the game on a 6-0 run to pick up the win.  NDNU shot just 32% from the field, but turned 22 offensive rebounds into 23 second chance points.

Stephen Chang led the Argos offense with 12 points off the bench, including the go-ahead jumper with 43 seconds left.  Dan Bergeron tacked on seven points, 10 rebounds and four steals.  Nine Argos players scored at least five points in the contest.  The Saints were paced by Jake Linton's 16 points, six assists and four steals while Stephon Harris added 14 points.  The Argos play their first home game of the season on Saturday against Fresno Pacific at 7:00 pm. BOX SCORE

 

Argos Snap Western Washington's Home Streak

December 3 - The NDNU men's basketball accomplished something that had not been done in February 14, 2004.  The Argos defeated Western Washington in Carver Gym, snapping the Vikings home winning streak that reached 31 consecutive contests.  NDNU took home their second straight road game, improving to 3-1 on the season with the 84-70 victory.  The game remained close late into the first half, with the Argos clinging to a two point lead with 4:22 remaining.  NDNU would then end the half on a 15-2 run that stretched the lead to 15 points and put the Argos up 43-28 at halftime.  The Vikings would rebound in the second half, cutting the lead to six points but could not get any closer.  The Argos hit all ten of their free throws in the final two minutes to push the lead back to into double figures.  For the game, NDNU hit 9-15 3-pointers and 21-22 free throws while forcing the Vikings into 18 turnovers.  WWU shot 46% for the game, but made just three of 14 shots from behind the arc.

Ryan Cooper scored a game high 19 points including three 3-pointers and added four assists.  Chris Clock went 3-4 from long distance on his way to a 15 point game, while Eric Bossom and Stephen Chang tacked on 10 points apiece.  Chris Edwards contributed eight points and seven rebounds off the bench.  The Vikings were paced by Ira Graham and Lukas Henne who totaled 18 and 16 points respectively.  Steve Severin added seven points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in the loss.  The Argos play the second game of their Washington trip on Tuesday against Saint Martin's in Lacey, WA. NDNU Downs Santa Cruz in County Bank Classic Consolation Game.

November 25 - The Notre Dame de Namur men's basketball team improved to 2-1 with a 69-58 victory over UC Santa Cruz.  The Argos won the CSU Stanislaus County Bank Classic Consolation game thanks to relentless defense that forced 26 turnovers.  NDNU started the game with six straight points and would never trail in the contest.  They shot a blistering 61% from the field in the first half and went into halftime up by 16 points.  In the second half, the Argos stretched the lead to 21 points before the Banana Slugs closed it to 11 at the end of the game. 

The Argos were led by four players in double figures with Ryan Cooper being the high scorer with 12 points.  Aaron Parker, Chris Edwards and Stephen Chang added 10 points each to pace the NDNU attach.  Dan Bergeron tacked on eight points, four assists and five steals for the Argos.  USCS was led by a game high 13 points from Ehson Mortezaie and 10 off the bench from Jared Crayton-Thomas.  NDNU is back in action December 3rd against Western Washington in Bellingham. Argos Fall to Occidental in County Bank Classic

November 24 - The NDNU men's basketball team dropped their opening round game at the CSU Stanislaus Country Bank Classic to Occidental College 66-59.  The Argos started the game off strong, scoring eight straight after an early basket by Occidental.  However, the Tigers would rally back and take a two point lead into halftime. In the second half, NDNU hung close, trailing by only one with less than ten minutes left.  Occidental would then extend their lead, capitalizing on 16-6 run and putting the game out of reach. 

Chris Edwards and Ryan Cooper led four Argos in double figures with 12 points each.  Dan Bergeron added a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.  Bergeron also hit a pair of 3-pointers and picked up two steals and three blocks.  Chris Clock tacked on 11 points for NDNU, who shot 41% from the field and only committed nine turnovers.  Occidental was led by Sam Betty's 20 points and nine rebounds while Connor Whitman added 19 points and three 3-pointers.  The Tigers turned the ball over 12 times, but outscored the Argos 19-7 from the free throw line.  NDNU will play again tomorrow night against UC Santa Cruz in the County Bank Classic Consolation Game.  BOX SCORE

 

NDNU Down San Francisco State in Season Opener

November 18 - The Notre Dame de Namur men's basketball team started the season off strong with a 61-53 road victory over San Francisco State.  The Argos used a strong defense and excellent free throw shooting to take home the win.  The game remained very close with the lead changing several times throughout the contest until Chris Clock sparked a 9-1 run by scoring seven straight points.  The Argos would never look back, sinking 10 free throws in the final two minutes to preserve the victory.

NDNU forced the Gators into 24 turnovers and held them to just 38% shooting on the night.  The Argos also managed to shoot just 38% from the field, but hit 84% from the free throw line on their way to outscoring SFSU 26-9 from the stripe.  Stephen Chang led three players in double figures with 14 points and a pair of 3-pointers.  Chris Clock added 12 points while Dan Bergeron tacked on 10 points and seven rebounds.  San Francisco State was paced by a game high 20 from Alex Thomas.  The Argos will be back on the court November 24-25 at the CSU Stanislaus Tournament.  BOX SCORE    

 

Argos Fall to Cal Poly in Exhibition

November 4 - The NDNU men's basketball team dropped an exhibition game to Cal Poly 82-55.  Cal Poly, a Division I school, got 20 points and 10 rebounds from Derek Stockalper to push past the Argos.  NDNU played well early, taking an 18-17 lead halfway through the first half on an Adam Bleem three pointer.  However, the Mustangs responded with ten unanswered points and went into halftime up 42-28.

The second half was much of the same, as the Argos fought tough but could not close the gap on the Mustangs.  NDNU shot 36.5% for the game, connected on four threes and added ten steals.  Eric Bossom paced the Argos offense, scoring 11 points off the bench and grabbing four rebounds.  Chris Clock poured in ten points, including two threes.  The Mustangs got 11 points from Clayton Osborn and 10 from Dawin Whiten to add to Stockalper's 20 point performance.  The Argos will play their final exhibition game this Sunday at Santa Clara. Argo Men End Season at Grand Canyon

The Argo men ended their season with a 110-70 loss at Grand Canyon on Saturday night. The Argos could not get much of anything going in the first half as they only scored 20 points and gave up 45. Prince Benitez tried to carry the Argos as he had nine points on three of six shooting from behind the arc. NDNU could not cool off the hot three-point shooting of Grand Canyon as they connected on 7 of 11. The second half led to more Argo scoring (50 pts) but they ended up virtually trading baskets with Grand Canyon. Grand Canyon point guard, Ryan Nelson set an NCAA Division II record with 20 assists. The NDNU seniors finished their last game on a high note individually as Benitez ended with 15 points and Pat Menzel finished with 21. NDNU wraps up their season with an overall record of 8-17.

Cooper Sinks Game Winning Three Over East Bay

Ryan Cooper sank the game winning three-point basket with 19 seconds left in the game to lead the Argos to a 68-65 victory. NDNU And East Bay battled to a 32-32 tie at halftime behind 42% shooting for both teams. The second half was much of the same but with NDNU lighting it up from the field as they shot 56%. East Bay would get their scoring from the free throw line as they were 9 of 15 from the line. The second period went back and forth before East Bay took a two point advantage off of a three-point basket. The Argos took a timeout and came out with a plan to run the time down and spread their offense out but Cooper saw the opportunity to take the three. With 19 seconds remaining he got the ball on the left side of the key at the three point line and pulled the trigger and found nothing but net to put the Argos up for good. NDNU had four players score in double figures; Cooper (12 points), Dan Bergeron (14 points), Prince Benitez (13 points), Pat Menzel (13 points).  NDNU has one game remaining at Grand Canyon University. The Argos stand at 8-16 on the season.

Balanced Attack Leads to Victory over Dominican

Five Argos score in double figures to lead to a 71-67 victory over Dominican.  NDNU went into halftime with all of the momentum as they got a long three point bucket from Stephen Chang to end the half. The Argos came out of the intermission and controlled the game until Dominican came storming back to tie the game at 67-67. Ryan Cooper then came down the floor for NDNU and got in the lane and spun and connected on the basket to put the Argos up for good at 69-67. Dominican came down and missed their shot and Pat Menzel came up with the rebound and was fouled. Menzel made both free throws to seal the victory for the Argos. Eric Bossom led the way for NDNU with 15 points, Pat Menzel added 14 points, Prince Benitez notched 13 points, Stephen Chang added 10 points, and Ryan Cooper gave the Argos 10 points and 7 assists.   NDNU finished the game shooting almost 56% from the field and were almost perfect from the free throw line as they were 10 of 11.

 

Strong Second Half Overpowers Menlo

The Argos outscored Menlo, 57-43 in the second half enroute to a 89-76 victory.  NDNU went into halftime down 32-33 but came out in the second half and was a blistering 60% from the field and 62% from the three-point line. The 57 points was the highest scoring output in a single half for the Argos this season. In scoring 89 points, NDNU surpassed their scoring average of almost 63 points a game. The Argos used their defense to force 21 Menlo turnovers and controlled the ball as they only had 11 turnovers. Five NDNU players scored in double figures with Ryan Cooper leading the way with 24 points. Prince Benitez (17 pts), Pat Menzel (15 pts), Eric Bossom (14 pts), and Dan Bergeron (12 pts) all had the hot hand for the Argos. James Gilkey led Menlo with 22 points. NDNu improves to 6-14 on the season.

 

NDNU Falters in Loss to Bethany

NDNU had a let down after a big win over CSU East Bay last night and were defeated by Bethany on Saturday night 47-38.  Bethany got out to a 5-2 lead to begin the game but NDNU came back and tied the contest at 7 apiece and then controlled most of the first half. The Argos took a 21-17 advantage going into intermission. NDNU would control the game until the last four minutes when Bethany took the lead back 36-35. The Bruins sealed the game on a Jason Senedenos three point bucket off a kick from Quentin Boston to put Bethany up 42-37. Ryan Cooper had a chance to close the gap to 2 points but his three pointer hit the front of the rim at the 1:26 mark. Although only 6 of 13 from the line, Bethany stepped up and hit late free throws. The two seniors led NDNU with 12 points each, Prince Benitez and Pat Menzel. NDNU only managed to connect on 10 of  their 43 field goal attempts for 23%. Boston led Bethany with 18 points. NDNU returns back to action on Friday, January 27 when they host Menlo at 7:30pm
