Argos Topple Chaminade 3-0 October 25 - The Notre Dame de Namur men's soccer team won their seventh straight game in decisive fashion, shutting out Chaminade 3-0. The Argos improved to 11-5-2 overall and are 7-1 in Pac West games. NDNU was on attack from the beginning, tallying 35 shots to only two from the Silverswords. Eric Michon put the Argos on the board with his team leading 14th goal on an assist from Anton Del Rosario. The game remained 1-0 until the 57th minute when Del Rosario found Dorian Virrueta for the Argos second goal of the game. Virrueta would add another goal in the 65th minute on a feed from Anthony Putrus. Goalie Nico Arrellano recorded his second consecutive shutout, needing only one save to keep Chaminade scoreless. The Argos are back in action Friday against Hawaii-Pacific for the third game of their Hawaii trip. BOX SCORE
NDNU Drops Hawaii-Hilo, Wins Sixth Straight October 24 – The NDNU men's soccer team won their sixth consecutive game with a 4-0 defeat of Hawaii-Hilo. The Argos improved to 10-5-2 on the season and are 6-1 in conference play. The game was decided early, as the Argos poured in four first half goals and out shot the Vulcans 18-2. Eric Michon picked up his third straight two goal game and leads the team with 13 on the season. Michon got the scoring started with an unassisted goal in the 16th minute to put NDNU up 1-0. Anthony Putrus then added his 10th goal of the season in the 24th minute. Nick Hooper would score just three minutes later after taking a pass from Emmanuel Vasquez and beating goalie Marc Fournier. Michon capped off the half with his second goal of the game in the 29th minute. Goalie Nico Arellano recorded his third shutout of the season, making a pair of saves. The Argos continue their Hawaii trip Wednesday night against Chaminade University. BOX SCORE
Argos Down #15 Seattle 3-2 October 19 – The NDNU men’s soccer team continued its hot streak, winning their fifth consecutive game with a 3-2 victory over Seattle University. Erik Michon had his second straight two goal game and Anthony Putrus added another to round out the NDNU scoring. The Argos found themselves down early when Pat Thomas netted a penalty kick in the 23rd minute. Michon would tie the game in the 41st minute when he took a crossing pass from Nick Hooper and knocked it off the crossbar and into the net. The Argos put another goal on the board just four minutes into the second half to go up 2-1. Dorian Virrueta played a ball over the defense that Putrus ran down and put past goalie Jordan Jennings. Both teams remained on the attack but could not score until Michon’s second goal in the 83rd minute. Michon and Anton Del Rosario worked a give-and-go to put the Argos up 3-1. The Redhawks cut the lead in half with a header by Sean Rawson in the 88th minute, but that was as close as Seattle would get. Nico Arellano made six saves to pick up the win and move NDNU to 9-5-2 on the season. The Argos continue Pac West play next week when they travel to Hawaii for the final four games of the season. Argos Topple Hawaii-Hilo 5-0 October 14 – The NDNU men’s soccer team scored early and often to down the Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans 5-0. The Argos improved to 8-5-2 on the season and moved to 5-1 in Pac West play with the victory. Erik Michon and Rigo Pinal each scored a pair of goals while Anthony Putrus added a career high three assists. Nico Arellano and Mike Jaso combined for the shutout as the Argos out shot the Vulcans 14-2.
Emmanuel Vasquez put NDNU on the board in the 5th minute. Putrus’s cross from the left was headed by Kyle Hyden who found Vasquez for the goal. Michon would add two more goals before the half was over and the Argos went into halftime up 3-0. Pinal added a pair of goals in the second half to finish off the scoring. Pinal’s first goal came in the 50th minutes of a deflection off a Putrus shot. His second score came with just 15 seconds left in the game. The Argos play one more home game on Thursday against Seattle University before traveling to Hawaii for the final four games of the season. BOX SCORE
Three Late Goals Push Argos Past Chaminade October 12 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s soccer team used three goals in the final 20 minutes to defeat Chaminade University 3-0 and improve to 7-5-2 on the season. The Argos moved to 4-1 in Pac West play and were in control throughout the game. They held the Silver Swords to just one shot while tallying 18 shots of their own. Mike Jaso made his first appearance for NDNU and recorded the shutout. The game stayed scoreless until the 72nd minute when Edgar Rivera connected on a shot from 25 yards out to give the Argos a 1-0 lead. After Andres Caballero was taken down on a breakaway, Anton Del Rosario scored on a penalty kick for the second goal of the game. The final goal came in the 82nd minute when Emmanuel Vasquez took a pass from Rosario and beat goalie Darren Smith. Rosario finished the game with a goal and two assists, giving him a team leading eight assists on the season. The Argos are back in action Saturday at 1:00 pm against Hawaii-Hilo at Evergreen Valley College. BOX SCORE
NDNU Blanks BYU Hawaii 3-0 October 7 – The NDNU Argonauts improved to 6-5-2 on the season and upped their conference record to 3-1 with a shutout of BYU Hawaii. The Argos took an early lead and never looked backed, out shooting the Seasiders 20-5. Nick Hooper put NDNU up in the 13th minute when he took a touch pass from Anthony Putrus and put it in the back of the net. The Argos tacked on two more goals early in the second half, with the first coming from Rigo Pinal just three minutes into the half. Dorian Virrueta played the ball into the box to Kyle Hyden who touched it to Pinal. Putrus would add the final goal in the 51st minute, beating goalie Doug Hansen on a cross from Virrueta. The goal was Putrus's team leading eighth of the season. Nico Arellano picked up the shutout, making four saves on the game. The Argos continue Pac West play on Thursday against Chaminade University. Argos Use Big Second Half to Down Hawaii Pacific October 5 – The Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts used four second half goals to defeat Hawaii Pacific 5-1 and improve to 5-5-2 on the season. Anthony Putrus scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the NDNU attack which recorded a season high 28 shots.
Anton Del Rosario got the scoring started in 28th minute when he took a pass from Putrus and beat the goalie up high. Rosario would return the favor in the 63rd minute when he found Putrus streaking down the middle of the field to put the Argos up 2-0. Putrus would add his second goal five minutes later on a chip over the goalie’s head from midfield. Nick Hooper and Edgar Rivera would each add a goal before the game ended to complete the scoring for NDNU. Jeff Dworsky scored the lone goal for HPU in the 80th minute. The Argos continue Pac West play on Saturday against BYU Hawaii at Evergreen Valley College at 7:00 pm. BOX SCORE
NDNU Falls in Double Overtime to Grand Canyon October 1 – The Argos could not hold off the Grand Canyon Antelopes in a 2-1 double overtime loss. The ‘Lopes scored both goals on free kicks from just beyond the box to erase an early one goal deficit. NDNU had 19 shots to only seven from the ‘Lopes, and just missed putting the game away several times. NDNU got on the board first in the 37th minute. Dorian Virrueta headed home a centering pass from Eric Michon to give the Argos a 1-0 lead. The game stayed 1-0 until the 69th minute when David Hague ripped a free kick past Nico Arellano to even the score. The game stayed tied into double overtime when Bosko Yovicevic placed a free kick into the top right corner to win the game. The Argos dropped to 4-5-2 on the season and 1-1 in Pac West play. They will be back in action on Thursday night against Hawaii-Pacific at Evergreen Valley College at 8:00pm. BOX SCORE
NDNU Blanks Grand Canyon, Wins 1-0 September 29 – The NDNU men used an Eric Michon goal with just 12 seconds left in the first half to win their Pac West opener over Grand Canyon. The Argos and Lopes battled throughout the first half with each team recording several shots on goal. However, in the 44th minute Michon took a long pass from Anthony Putrus and snuck it by Franco Carotenuto for the only goal of the game. NDNU registered 19 shots compared to 14 from the ‘Lopes. Nico Arellano recorded the shutout by making 11 saves, including several diving stops. Michon’s goal was his team leading seventh of the season while Putrus picked up his fourth assist. The Argos moved to 4-4-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. The two teams will face off again on Sunday at De Anza College at 3:00 pm. BOX SCORE
Argos Fall on Double Overtime Penalty Kick September 25 - The NDNU men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to Seattle Pacific on a game winning penalty shot in double overtime. The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie through regulation and the first overtime before Michael Morris hammered home the winning goal in the 102nd minute. Anton Del Rosario got the Argos started early with a goal in the 14th minute off assists from Anthony Putrus and Nick Hooper. Jeff Hallenbeck tied the score 10 minutes later, scoring on an open. NDNU had two shots hit the cross bar and Hooper had a chance late in regulation but was denied by SPU goalie Kellen Rosten. The loss gives the Argos a 3-4-2 record heading into conference play which starts on Friday against Grand Canyon University. BOX SCORE
Michon's Hat Trick Leads NDNU Past Western Washington September 23 - The NDNU Argonauts used a hat trick from senior Eric Michon to down the Western Washington Vikings 7-2. The Argos scored a season high seven goals, four in the first half, to improve to 3-3-2 on the season. Michon got things started early, scoring his first goal in the 10th minute and following with another less than a minute later. After WWU cut the lead in half in the 15th minute, Nick Hooper and Anthony Putrus each scored to push the Argos lead to 4-1. Hooper scored again in the 55th minute but was quickly answered by the Vikings, making the score 5-2. Colin Morikawa added the Argos sixth goal in the 64th minute before Michon picked up the hat trick with his third goal in the 80th minute. NDNU is back in action on Monday against Seattle Pacific before returning home to start conference play on Friday.
Two Penalty Kicks Lead San Jose State Past NDNU September 16 - The NDNU Argonauts men's soccer team lost to the San Jose State Spartans 2-1 on Saturday night. SJSU used two penalty kick goals by sophomore Ed Brand to defeat the Argos. Brand gave the Spartans an early lead nearly 10 minutes into the match, when a handball call was made inside the Argonaut penalty box at the 9:42 mark. Brand then buried his attempt into the upper right corner of the net, giving SJSU a 1-0 lead. After another handball penalty was called inside the box, Brand scored his second goal of the game. The Argos cut the deficit in half in the 80th minute on Eric Michon's third goal of the season. Anton Del Rosario and Robert Morini picked up the assists on the goal, but that would be as close as NDNU would get. The loss dropped the Argonauts to 2-2-2 on the season with a game against Westmont College scheduled for Monday. BOX SCORE
Argos and Sunbirds Battle to 1-1 Tie The NDNU Argonauts came away with a 1-1 tie in a hard fought, double overtime game against Fresno Pacific University. The two schools combine for 37 shots, with NDNU taking 22, including 13 of them on goal. Gilbert Da Silveira put the Sunbirds up by a goal on a shot from just outside the box in the 20th minute. NDNU answered back in the 34th minute when Eric Michon beat Brandon Cave to knot the score at one apiece. Both squads had scoring opportunities in the secondhalf and overtime, but the goalies came up with several big saves. FPU’s Brandon Cave made 12 saves on the game, while NDNU’s Nico Arellano had a season high nine. Anton del Rosario picked up her team leading third assist and Dorian Virrueta got his second of the year. Amaury Nunes and Juan Alfaro each recorded an assist for Fresno Pacific. NDNU is back in action Saturday night on the road against San Jose State at 7:00 pm.
Argos Suffer First Loss to Eagles 2-1 September 9 – The NDNU Argonauts suffered their first loss of the season, dropping their home opener to Concordia University 2-1. The Argos and Eagles battled through a scoreless first half without either team mounting a serious threat. However, the second half was a different story as Connor Barr put the Argos up 1-0. Barr scored in the 49th minute off an assist from Anton del Rosario. The game remained 1-0 until Jeff Clark’s header snuck past David Montgomery and knotted the game at one apiece. Less than a minute later, Clark scored on another header to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead in the 69th minute. Notre Dame out shot the Eagles 15-8, but goalie Mike Borst allowed only the one goal. Jon Fahey, Ryan Ninke and Rich Wolfe all picked up an assist for Concordia. The Argos are home again on Tuesday to face Fresno Pacific at 4 pm.
