16th Season

 

 

Coach Silveira begins his 16th season at NDNU.  He began coaching the men’s team in 1991 and the women in 2001. 

Men

Silveira has led the Argos men to eight consecutive winning seasons and seven NAIA Region II Playoff appearances.  From 1998-2003, the men’s team took home at least a share of the Cal Pac Championship.  The Argos finished the 2005 season with a 10-8-1 record, the schools first year in Division II.  In 2004, the most successful season in men’s history, the Argos advanced to the NAIA Regional Semifinal game where they lost in overtime.  Silveira earned Cal Pac Coach of the Year honors in 2003 after leading the men to a 14-8 record.  He enters 2006 with an overall record as coach at the professional and collegiate level of 424-203-55 in 22 years and he has a career men’s record at NDNU of 148-144-17 in 14 yrs.

Women

Silveira has helped guide the women to five consecutive winning seasons and four straight Cal Pac titles from 2001-2004.  NDNU finished their first season in Division II with a 7-5-3 record after ending 2004 ranked 12th in the NAIA.  During the 2003 season, the Argos advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time ever and held their highest NAIA National ranking of #4. Coach Silveira was named the 2003 Cal Pac Coach of the Year.  The team was recognized nationally as three players were selected to the NAIA All-American team.  The Argos ranked 5th in the nation in goals scored, 3rd in goals scored per game and 10th in goals allowed.  Coach Silveira has an overall women’s soccer coaching record of 75-18-9 in five years.

Before NDNU

Coach Silveira was a standout soccer player at San Jose State University where he earned his degree.  He played for the San Jose Earthquakes from 1985-88 and was both a player and assistant coach for one and a half years.  He served as a head coach in the USISL with the Silicon Valley Ambassadors (1998), the California Jaguars (1996), and the Palo Alto Firebirds (1992-93).  He led the California Jaguars to a USISL Select National Championship in 1996 and the Firebirds to the 1992 USISL National Championship.  In 1992 he was honored as the USISL Coach of the Year.  Silveira was an assistant coach/player with the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks (APSL) in 1991 and the Salt Lake Sting in 1990.  He played with the Phoenix Pride from 1982-85 and the Jacksonville Tea-Men in 1982.
